If you own pets, you are not vegan. You are an animal abuser and a prison guard. You don’t know if your pet wants to be owned or not. You never gave them an option to begin with.

But “owning animals” is not vegan. Taking care of non humans of course does is vegan, when they can’t take care of themselves, but that’s not “owning”. Owning means that the animal is yours, it’s a legal way to perpetuate animal slavery and objectification. It means that you can treat the animal greatly or kick ze, because it’s yours.
I think you meant “living with and taking care of animals (be they non human or human)”, but that’s NEVER owning someone.
And don’t get me started with the “pets” word! Haha, well, it may seem a bit useless to discuss this, but fact is words and language affect the way we relate to the world. Saying that you “own a pet” means “that animal over there is my object, it’s subjugated to me, and I may do with ze as I please”. I dislike the word “pet” because it means that the animal is somehow yours, and it is not. Human and non human animals belong to no one but themselves.
